That is a quote from Alexander Hamilton, that I happened to have on Simplenote. I was testing the ability to post from the latest Android app version to WordPress. Might be useful the next time you hear someone vapouring about refugees – or immigrants, come to that.

While my coming to Canada was in part due to the election of Richard Nixon as POTUS 50 yrs ago in 1968 – and I’ve stayed for 50 years now, it’s also true I haven’t dissolved all my “connexions” to the US. I even consider returning from time to time, but then consider the options and conclude Canada is the better place.

I came to Canada 30 years ago mainly due to the baleful influence of Margaret Thatcher on the UK. Every time I go back there it seems somehow to have got worse. The recent decline in my pensions due to Brexit confirms my own opinions. And now the rift in the Labour Party due to Jeremy Corbin’s attitude just adds to the chaos. Of course neoliberalism is not confined to one country, and BC’s rejection of PR – which seems once again to be based on a process intended to fail – makes me unhappy here too. The prospect of Andrew Scheer as PM is too appalling to contemplate.
